Alright, time for another “not worth a full review” movie. This time it’s a new release that lured me in with it’s sort of cool poster. What’s the movie you ask? 2014’s TORMENT.
Alright, so this uninspired rip-off of “You’re Next” has a pretty basic plot :
Newlyweds Cory and Sarah Morgan take Cory’s 7-year old son Liam up to the country for some much needed family time. When it appears as if Liam has run away, psychological suspense becomes straight-out horror, as Sarah and Cory must now confront a sadistic cult-like family who have been hiding in the house all along and have taken Liam for themselves.
The movie is boring, totally uninteresting and has very little to offer. As far as this kind of movie goes, there are so many better versions of it and this one just really isn’t doing itself any favors. It also takes so long to get going, and that’s saying something for a movie that only clocks in at 80 minutes. You don’t even see the cool mask from the above poster, until 30 minutes in, and even then, it’s pretty lame.
Also, in the end, the dad dies, the kid and the step mom form a bond, love each other, and get away. Also, the whole crazy-dick family is a-ok and gets back together for more murderin’.
Anyways. Skip this movie. Watch You’re Next instead.
